  • Grand jury returns indictments

    The Brunswick County Grand Jury under the direction of Judge Ola Lewis with prosecutor Rex Gore and courtroom clerk Michelle Warth returned the following indictments during a Superior Court session on Nov. 2:

    Donald Wesley Adkins, 64, of 435 Orchard Lane, Bolivia; eight counts felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, eight counts felony sell/deliver schedule II controlled substance, eight counts felony maintain vehicle/dwelling/place controlled substance.

  • Woman wanted from stealing from nonprofit resale store

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a woman they say stole from a local nonprofit resale store.

    Deborah Ann Lacayo, 45, was charged with misdemeanor larceny after detectives say she stole a pressure washer from the Hope Chest resale store on Holden Beach Road.

    Lacayo has a last known address of 153 Clam Bay Drive in Supply.

    Anyone with information about Lacayo or here whereabouts is asked to contact detective Tony Caison at the sheriff’s office, 253-2777.

  • Employee charged with larceny after fabricating incident at Sunset Beach Fishing Pier

    SUNSET BEACH—An employee of the Sunset Beach Fishing Pier was arrested Monday and charged with larceny.

    Shawn M. Lowe, 25, of 272 Carolina Farms Blvd., Carolina Shores, was charged with larceny by employee less than $10,000 after an armed robbery and assault were reported at the pier store at 5:36 p.m. Nov. 5.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office K-9 roundup

    The K-9 enforcement team answers calls, conducts driver’s license checkpoints and assists with other agencies when K-9s are needed.

    From Nov. 2-8, K-9 deputies patrolled the following areas: Wildwood, Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens and Shell Point Acres.

    Narcotics located by K-9 deputies include less than 1 gram of marijuana, two smoking bowls, cocaine residue and 1 gram of crack cocaine.

    Allison Marie Todd, 28, of 1934 Aire St. SW, Supply, was charged with possession of ½ ounce or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office ACE roundup

    The Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team is a support unit, whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    The ACE team conducts driving while impaired and driver’s license checkpoints, as well as street-level investigations on controlled substances.

    The ACE team works with the sheriff’s office K-9 Enforcement Team and Drug Enforcement Unit to apprehend narcotics suspects as well as saturating hot spots where criminal activity is reported.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •Breaking and entering, property damage and larceny on North Windward, Supply; suspect kicked victim’s front door off its hinges.

    •Breaking and entering and property damage on Second Avenue in Supply; suspect kicked in victim’s door and entered residence.

    •Larceny on High Hill Drive in Shallotte; suspect stole victim’s four-wheeler.

  • OCEAN ISLE BEACH - CRIME REPORT

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department made the following arrests and investigated the following incidents last week. All information is taken directly from police incident reports.

    •Breaking and entering to storage room on Craven Street.

    •Shannon Renee Benton, 30, of Sunset Beach; charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

    •Andrew Thomas Smeltzer, 35, of Ocean Isle Beach; charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.

    The Brunswick County Superior Court under the direction of Judge Ola M. Lewis with prosecutors Chris Thomas, Erin Holden and Brooke Smith adjudicated the following cases during a Superior Court session on Oct. 22:

  • SHALLOTTE CRIME REPORT

    Shallotte police charged the following people and investigated the following incidents during the past week. The information is taken directly from police reports.

    •Police charged James Joseph Winter, 36, of 2914 Bay Village Road, Shallotte, with larceny of check and forgery of check. He stole a check from the victim, filled it out for $100 and attempted to cash it.

    He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

  • District Court Docket

    The following cases were adjudicated over four days of District Criminal Court on Oct. 28, 29, 30 and Nov. 2 in Bolivia.

    Wednesday, Oct. 28

    Judge Napoleon B. Barefoot Jr. presided over the following cases with prosecutor Cathi Radford and courtroom clerk Jennifer Hearn:
