  • Black and White Masquerade Ball for New Hope Clinic

    This Friday it’s time to don a mask and make a difference in lives in Brunswick County.

    New Hope Clinic is hosting a masquerade ball, and you’re invited. From 7-10:30 p.m. the black-tie-optional event will be at 101 Stone Chimney Place in Supply.

    “We are looking for it to be a fun evening to celebrate the work of the clinic and help support us in our work to provide services to all Brunswick County residents who don’t have health insurance,” executive director Shelia Roberts said.

  • Calabash Community Park nears completion

    CALABASH—Though not officially completed, the new Calabash Community Park is already attracting visitors.

    Children have been enjoying swings and other playground equipment installed on the 1-acre site at the corner of Persimmon Road and Traders Lane, town clerk Kelley Southward said last week.

    In addition, the park was closed this past Saturday afternoon for a special gathering of the Calabash Elks Club. Other events have been scheduled as well.

  • Beck's Restaurant in Calabash burns in fire

    CALABASH—Beck’s, a 72-year-old landmark restaurant in Calabash, has burned in a fire that broke out Monday.

    The fire at the historic restaurant on River Road near Beach Drive was reported at 10:10 p.m. Monday, a little over an hour after the restaurant had closed for the evening.

    “The whole back of the roof was fully involved when we got here,” said Honey Shore, public information officer for the Calabash Fire Department.
