    Worthless check cashed at Crescom Bank on Smith Avenue for $7,652.

    June 5

    Larceny of a truck and trailer worth $6,000 from Beach House Harley-Davidson on Harley-Davidson Drive.

    Vandalism, destruction of property totaling $4,000 and theft of $500 from coin-operated drink machines in the parking lot of GoGas on Main Street.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of a $300 Yeti cooler from a motor vehicle parked at a Northgate Drive residence.

    Larceny of a pickup truck worth $30,000 parked at an Ashland Way residence.

    Larceny of $30.01 in gas from Murphy USA gas station on New Pointe Boulevard.

    June 8

    Breaking and entering and injury to personal property by breaking a lock on a construction trailer on Druids Glenn Drive and Muskerry Way and larceny of two concrete saws and a generator worth $3,400.

    Injury to real property by striking the Waterberry Plantation Club House on Jackeys Creek Lane with a vehicle and leaving the scene, causing $5,000 in damage.

    Felony larceny of three iPhones worth $2,157 from a storage room at Verizon Cellular Sales on Main Street.

    Larceny of a Jeep Wrangler worth $12,000, two BMX bikes and a surfboard worth $890 from the parking lot of John Madison DDS dental office on South Willis Drive.

    Theft of a wallet containing a checkbook and credit cards from a purse at Rourk Branch Library on Main Street.

  • Sunset Beach Police Department, June 5-11 2018

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents and made these arrests. All information is taken directly from incident and arrest reports.

    June 5

    Dog complaint in the area of Twisted Oak Lane. Reporting party said their neighbor’s dog kept going in their backyard and causing problems with their dog. The owner was advised to keep their dog on their property at all times.

    Damaged mailbox reported in the area of Edgewater Circle. Mailbox was replaced.

  • Federal judge sentences Oak Island man to 35 years for child porn

    A federal judge sentenced an Oak Island man to 35 years in prison for receipt of child pornography.

    U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan also sentenced 31-year-old Michael Carl Butler on Wednesday to 15 years of supervised release, Robert J. Higdon Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, said in a news release issued Thursday.

    Butler was named in a three-count indictment Sept. 26 and pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography Dec. 13 pursuant to a plea agreement.

  • Sunset Beach Police Department, May 29-June 2 2018

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents and made these arrests. All information is taken directly from incident reports.

    May 29

    Rodney Mead, 53, of Viking Court, Myrtle Beach, S.C., was charged with property damage at Sea Trail Golf Course. Victim said someone drove a red pickup truck onto the green and cut doughnuts with a vehicle, causing an estimated $6,000 in property damage.

  • Calabash Fire Department, May 2018

    During the month of May, the Calabash Fire Department responded to a record 215 calls: nine structure fires, a woods/brush fire, a vehicle fire, eight fire alarms, 12 motor vehicle accidents, a rescue, three mutual aid, 33 public assistance, six other and 141 EMS first response calls. 

  • Davis named deputy chief of Horry County Police Department

    The Horry County (S.C.) Police Department announced Chief Joe Hill selected Kenneth Davis as the agency’s deputy chief.

    A native of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School, he received his Bachelor of Science from The Citadel in education, Master of Science in criminal justice and corrections from the University of South Carolina and his Ph.D. in public safety from Capella University.

  • Bolivia man dies in Monday morning crash

    A Bolivia man died in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning.

    George Washington Bellamy, 72, was driving his pewter GMC Sierra pickup truck east on Gilbert Road just before 7 a.m. when he veered right off the road while rounding a curve, N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Matthew King said. The pickup struck a ditch and flipped, trapping Bellamy inside.

    Bellamy, who had been traveling alone, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, King said.

    Trooper A.S. Godwin responded. It appears speed contributed to the crash, King said.
