    April 26

    Identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense reported.

    April 27

    Mark Huelle, 47, of Clubhouse Road, was arrested on a driving while impaired charge.

  • Sunset Beach man charged with kidnapping, credit card fraud

    A Sunset Beach man is charged with kidnapping, identity theft, financial credit card theft, financial card fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.

    Stephen Harold Curtsinger, 57, of Sea Bourne Way was arrested Friday, April 27.

    A Sunset Beach police report shows officers arrived at Curtsinger’s residence, identified themselves and knocked on doors for several minutes.

    After officers entered the home with a warrant, they performed a safety sweep and alerted occupants to show themselves.

    Injury to personal property by hitting trees and landscaping in the New Pointe Boulevard parking lot.

    Travis Wayne Whitlock, 31, of Maco Road arrested on a failure to appear in court warrant.

    Someone broke into a motor vehicle on Elderberry Lane and stole a laptop.

    Harassing social media comments reported on Sea Borne Way.

    Property damage (front window broken) on Magnolia Drive.

    Someone broke into a garage on Ocean Harbour Golf Club Drive SW took several power tools.

  • Ferry crew rescues kiteboarder

    A North Carolina ferry crew rescued a kiteboarder struggling to swim to shore in the Cape Fear River on Saturday afternoon after getting his kiteboard tangled on a navigational aid.

    The crew of the M/V Fort Fisher was completing its midday run between Southport and Fort Fisher when Capt. Barry West noticed the man and his gear tangled in the Federal Point Rear Range Beacon, according to a state Department of Transportation news release issued Monday afternoon.

  • Warren named to special committee on school safety

    Administrative Office of the Courts director Marion Warren of Ash is among the members of the Governor’s Crime Commission’s special committee consisting of representatives from law enforcement, juvenile justice, courts, schools and others to identify resources and develop recommendations to strengthen school safety.

  • Three face cocaine charges in separate cases

    Brunswick County sheriff’s deputies arrested three people on cocaine charges in two separate cases April 13.

    Kenneth Levern Miller, 28, of Cypress Court NW in Calabash, is charged with possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine and misdemeanor possession of more than a half-ounce but less than one-and-a-half ounces of marijuana, simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • Deputies seek man in Shallotte robbery

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man accused of robbing three people in Shallotte.

    Hamilton John Ortiz Bones, 39, is wanted on charges of first-degree burglary and two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny from the person, larceny after breaking and entering and assault by pointing a gun, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Flax said.

    An incident report shows two men robbed three people, including a 16-year-old girl, after 11 p.m. April 11 at 3005 High Meadows Drive. No one was injured.

  • OIB police seek man in business break-in

    Ocean Isle Beach police are asking for the public’s help to identify the man who broke in to Sheffield’s Seafood and Grocery on April 15

    The man removed cash from the safe and stole cigarettes from the business at 57 Causeway Drive SW early that morning, police said.

    The man, described as white and last seen wearing a blue shirt and black flip-flops, faces charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property

    Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Rich Heycock at 274-1746 or 579-4221.

  • Wilmington man arrested in Leland burglary

    New Hanover County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Wilmington man accused of breaking into a Leland residence and stealing jewelry.

    Michael Jimmy Pappas, 39, of Pleasant Dale Drive, is charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.
