  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From April 23-29, special operations set up checkpoints on Ash-Little River Road, Lincoln Road, U.S. 74 and Mount Misery Road. Deputies issued cited 23 drivers for speeding.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Deputies with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Larceny, vandalism and motor vehicle theft on Pin Fish Street in Supply on April 28; suspect stole victim’s vehicle and money.

    •Burglary, larceny and vandalism on Beach Drive in Ocean Isle Beach on April 28; suspect stole money.

    •Burglary and vandalism on Brooks Landing in Supply on April 28.

    •Larceny on Fayetteville Avenue in Calabash on April 28; suspect stole assorted jewelry from victim.

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    The Shallotte police department office is closed to the public while the building undergoes renovations. Anyone wishing to speak to an officer or obtain a copy of a police report must go to the Southend Task Force building at 130 Cheers St. The number to reach the police department is 754-6008.

  • Man charged in Sunset Beach

    SUNSET BEACH—Sunset Beach police have charged an Ocean Isle Beach man after he was stopped April 22.

    Sergio Enriquez Quiahua, 28, of Ocean Harbour Road, Ocean Isle Beach, was arrested and charged April 22 with careless and reckless driving, speeding and no operator’s license.

  • Sheriff’s eldest son arrested for DWI

    BOLIVIA—John William Ingram VI, eldest son of Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram, has been arrested for driving while impaired.

    According Sheriff Ingram, Ingram, 21, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired on Saturday, April 21, by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol near Ocean Isle Beach.

    Ingram was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where he was processed and released into the sheriff’s custody after being booked.

  • Detectives investigate death of 28-year-old woman

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement agencies are investigating the death of a 28-year-old woman.

    Authorities have identified the woman as Megan Elizabeth Tysinger, of 9063 Sea Lane NW in Sunset Beach. Law enforcement has not confirmed how her death occurred but did say she died from a gunshot wound and that no foul play is suspected. Autopsy results are pending.

    Authorities responded to a call at 11 a.m. Monday on Sea Lane off Beach Drive near Sunset Beach.

  • Son of police officer, 911 telecommunicator dies in weekend wreck

    VARNAMTOWN—Ryan Dilworth, the teenage son of a Holden Beach Police officer and 911 telecommunicator, died in a single-car wreck Saturday.

    According to N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Troy Pope, Dilworth, 17, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle east on Stanbury Road near Varnamntown around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, when he ran off the road to the right as he exited a curve. Pope said Dilworth traveled back on the roadway, crossed the centerline and ran off the road to the left. He then came back on the road, where his vehicle overturned.

  • Sheriff’s detectives search for missing teen

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a missing teenager.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Del Routh, Amayrani “Maggie” Lopez, 15, was seen leaving her house on Ridge Forest Drive in Supply at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22.

    Lopez was wearing a white shirt with blue letters and black shorts. When she left her house Sunday, she was in the company of Benjamin Rodriguez, 16, who was in a black Hyundai Elantra.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

     

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Emmett Taylor Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C., was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and damage to real property. Taylor entered the Marathon gas station at 118 Causeway Drive around 2:45 a.m. April 4. The glass of the front entry door was broken.

    •Lorenzo Piggott of McMilly Road, Shallotte, was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
