  • Sunset Beach police report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests.

    •Injury to real propertyreported Sept. 5 at The Village at Sunset.

    •Mitchel Eugene Barker, 25, of 905 Orange St., Wilmington, charged Sept. 5 with driving while impaired (DWI).

    •Financial card transaction fraud reported Sept. 4 by a resident of Sea Trail Plantation.

    •John Franklin Wood, 44, of 3632 Farmington Lane, Duluth, Ga., charged Sept. 4 with DWI.

  • Shallotte police report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Breaking-and-entering and larceny from a coin-operated machine at West Brunswick High School; suspect damaged a small storm window and took money from a Pepsi machine.

    •Vandalism in the Birch Pond parking lot; victim’s vehicle was scratched on the side.

  • Businesses beware: Counterfeit currency circulating

    The South End Task Force (SETF) has wrapped up a string of cases involving counterfeit currency, which affected businesses in Shallotte, Ocean Isle Beach and Brunswick Community College.

    Two arrests have been made and computers and printers have been seized by the SETF.

    The United States Secret Service has been notified. State charges have been filed against two people who are the main suspects of printing counterfeit currency.

  • Special operations team report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From Aug. 27 through Sept. 2 special operations deputies issued 121 total traffic citations and charges and an additional 14 drug-related charges.

  • Low-cost rabies clinics on Sept. 15

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services is sponsoring a rabies clinic on Saturday, Sept. 15.

    Rabies shots will be $6, and the clinics will be at various locations throughout Brunswick County.

    •Brunswick Animal Hospital, 948 Ocean Hwy. W. in Supply, 8 a.m.-noon, 754-8165.

    •Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital, 1513 Brunswick Village Blvd. in Leland, 8 a.m.-noon, 777-2107.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

     

    Aug. 29

    •Forgery on Southport-Supply Road in Southport.

     

    Aug. 30

    •Assault on a female on Sword Street in Supply.

    •Burglary with forcible entry and criminal damage to property (vandalism) on Gangplank Lane in Supply.

    •Larceny of radio/TV/VCR/equipment on Lanvale Road in Leland.

    •Larceny of drugs/narcotics equipment from Lantana Road in Leland.

  • Special operations team report

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From Aug. 20-26, special operations deputies issued five total traffic citations and charges.

    Deputies set up checkpoints at the state line, on Blue Banks Loop, Cedar Hill Road, McLamb Road, Shell Point Road and Grey Bridge Road.

  • Man charged with disability insurance fraud

    Matthew Scott Cameron, 42, of 1739 Point Windward Place, Shallotte, has been charged with four counts of insurance fraud, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

    Criminal investigators allege Cameron filed fraudulent short-term disability claims with AFLAC Insurance Company between January and May 2011 for which he received $6,320 in benefits to which he was not entitled.

    •Resisting a public officer on Thorpe Landing Road in Ocean Isle Beach.

     

    Aug. 25

    •Forgery on River Road in Southport.

    •Burglary with forcible entry and criminal damage to property (vandalism) of a padlock and lock latch on C Street SW in Supply.

    •Counterfeiting with a counterfeit $20 bill on Southport-Supply Road in Supply.

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Simple possession and drug paraphernalia on Old Causeway Drive; suspect was smoking marijuana under the bridge.

    •Carl Wesley Caudill, 26, of 1323 Drumcliffe Road, Winston-Salem, was charged with simple possession and drug paraphernalia.
