  • Sheriff's office buys new speed monitor advisory trailer

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, through a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, recently purchased a new speed-monitoring trailer.

    The Sheriff's Office contacted Leland Police Department Chief Osey Sanders, Brunswick County coordinator for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, for assistance after the previous speed-monitoring unit was deemed inoperable after 10 years of service, according to a press release.

  • Crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week, which are taken directly from sheriff’s office incident reports:

    •John Charles McDade, 42, of 402 North Third St., Apt. 3, in Carolina Beach; charged with selling a malt beverage to a person who at the time was less than 21 years old.

    •Larceny of a motor vehicle on Oyster Lane in Supply; suspect took a 1992 Buick Park Avenue from the victim’s yard.

  • Leland crime report

    Leland Police officers investigated the following incidents between Dec. 20, 2007 and Jan. 7, 2008.

    All information is taken directly from officers’ patrol activity reports.

    •Pursuant to a domestic violence investigation, Benjamin Reyes, 27, of 1277-6 Village Road, was arrested for domestic assault.

    •Larceny by an employee on Village Road; reporting person stated that Waffle House was the victim of larceny by an employee.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Lake Jones Drive.
