  • Calabash Fire Department, December 2018

    During the month of December 2018, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 185 calls: nine structure fires, seven fire alarms, five motor vehicle accidents, one rescue, one investigation, 28 public assistance, a mutual aid, three other and 130 Emergency Medical Services first-response calls.

    During 2018, the department set a new record for yearly calls with a total of 2,210.

  • Shallotte man, trooper identified following New Year's night fatal shooting

    Authorities identified the state trooper who fired his weapon and Shallotte man who died following a Jan. 1 traffic stop and shooting in Brunswick County.

    Brandon Lovell Webster, 28, succumbed to injuries from a gunshot wound after arriving at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center that night.

    Trooper S.A. Collins, assigned to Troop B, District 6, Brunswick County, is a one-year veteran of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

    He fired at the vehicle Webster was driving on Holden Beach Road (N.C. 130) near Shallotte at 8:55 p.m.

  • Sunset Beach Police Department, Dec. 15-20, 2018

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made these arrests. All information is taken directly from department reports.

    Dec. 15

    Eddie Wayne Reavis, 55, of 1565 Little Shallotte River Road, Shallotte, arrested for outstanding warrants.

    Dec. 18

    Breaking and entering into a motor vehicle reported on Great Oak Circle. Unknown subject(s) took money from inside two different vehicles.

  • Leland police seek convenience store thief

    Leland police are looking for the man who stole items, including money from a donation jar, from a convenience store last month.

    The crime happened Nov. 30 at Buy-N-Go located on Ploof Road, but a police department news release did not say what time of day or offer any more details.

    “(The thief) is alleged to have taken store merchandise to include currency from a donation jar at the register,” Lt. Jeremy Humphries said in the release.

    Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jonathan Kazee at 371-0274.

  • Leland man sought in meth investigation that netted six arrests

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit agents are looking for a Leland man in a methamphetamine investigation that has resulted in six arrests so far.

  • Deputies make arrest in Shallotte purse-snatching case

    Brunswick County sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Shallotte police sought in a purse-snatching case.

    Heather Marie Lafontaine is charged with felony larceny from a person and assault inflicting serious bodily injury, the Shallotte Police Department reported on its Facebook page. Her age and address were not available.

    Domestic issue reported on Clubhouse Road.

    Dec. 15

    Credit card fraud reported. Subject used victim’s card several times within city limits.

    Attempted breaking and entering reported on 29thStreet.

    Dec. 16

    Zachary R. Kinley, 20, of Colony Place, received a state citation on a possession of marijuana less than one-half ounce charge.

    Darbyn Ash Colthurst, 19, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired.

    Dec. 4

    Misdemeanor larceny of electronics worth $202 from Wal-Mart on Main Street.

    Larceny of a pickup truck worth $4,000 from a Village Road residence.
