  • Wilmington man arrested in Sunset Beach armed robbery

    Officers arrested a Wilmington man Thursday, Feb. 8, in an armed robbery last year at Hardee’s in Sunset Beach.

    David Ashley Bates Sr., 46, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, communicating threats, and two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun.

    Sunset Beach police responded to the armed robbery just after 4 a.m. Sept. 22, 2017, at the restaurant at 1671 Seaside Road.

    Call for service for someone stepping into an uncovered water meter box on Main Street.

    Fraud by scamming the victim out of $350.

    Obtaining property by false pretenses by using the victim’s credit card to make $300 in purchases.

    Assault on a female at a Wedgwood Drive residence.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of a border collie from a Golden Sands Way residence.

    Breaking and entering, injury to personal property causing $60 in damage and larceny of $30 in electronics from a motor vehicle at a Royal Pine Court residence.

  • Sunset Beach Police Department Jan. 29-Feb. 1, 2018

    Sunset Beach police made the following arrests and investigated this incident.

    Jan. 29

    David Genter, 38, of Summerset Road in Ocean Isle Beachwas charged with driving while intoxicated.

    Jan. 31

    Lucian Siccard, 20, of Palm Lakes Drive, Little River, S.C., was issued a state citation for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Feb. 1

    Report taken at a residence about stalking.

  • Calabash Fire Department January 2018

    During the month of January 2018, the Calabash Fire Department responded to 188 calls: 10 structure fires, four woods/brush fires, a controlled burn, 10 fire alarms, two gas leaks, seven motor vehicle accidents, a rescue call, an investigation, 27 public assistance, two mutual aid, an other and 122 EMS first-response calls.

  • Two women accused of conspiring to sell cocaine

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says two women conspired to sell cocaine in the county.

    Twenty-six-year-olds Tiara Nichelle Hodge of Crawford Road in Raleigh and Lashika Denyelle Oates of Clay Street in Wilmington were arrested Jan. 31 and each charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine and conspiracy to sell or deliver cocaine."

  • BCSO arrests three men in Leland shooting

    The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested three Leland men in a Friday afternoon shooting. No one was injured.

    Aaron Grant Oliver, 19, of Hewett Burton Road SE was arrested Feb. 2, while Torrance Lemar Shaw Jr., 24, of Black Chestnut Drive and Dontee Deshawn Forte, 18, of Alfred Lane were arrested Monday night. Each is charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied moving vehicle, discharging a firearm from within an enclosure and six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

    Call for service; a Brooks Court resident reported she received a debit card she did not request.

    Jan. 27

    Defrauding innkeeper and injury to personal property by throwing A-1 steak sauce, Heinz 57 sauce, Tabasco sauce, salsa and Coke products across the Waffle House on Whiteville Road, causing $12 in damage and then leaving without paying.

    Obtaining money by false pretense by using victim’s checking account to make a $214.79 purchase.

    Breaking and entering and larceny of $150 from a motor vehicle parked at an Egrets Nest Circle residence.
