  • Sheriff’s detectives investigate shotgun death in Ash

     ASH—Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shotgun death, which they have preliminary determined was “accidental.”

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh, deputies responded to a home at 1228 Ash-Little River Road around 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 16.

    When deputies arrived, they found Wendall Padgett, 49, who suffered a shotgun wound to his left side. Padgett was taken to Sea Coast Hospital in Little River, S.C., where he was pronounced dead.

  • Sunset Beach police investigate incidents, make arrests

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests.

    Injury to personal property was reported in four separate incidents on 38th Street, at two addresses on 40th Street and one incident on 36th Street. The incidents were reported June 29 and July 1.

    An incident of obtaining property by false pretense was reported July 2 on Clubhouse Road.

    An attempted breaking and/or entering and injury to real property was reported July 3 on 30th Street.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Possession of a stolen motor vehicle, breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny and underage drinking on Causeway Drive; subject was in possession of a stolen motor vehicle (a golf cart). The golf cart was recovered in the possession of a minor. The case is listed as under further investigation.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    The Shallotte police department office is closed to the public while the building undergoes renovations.   • Brunswick County man sentenced in federal court on drug charges

    RALEIGH—A Brunswick County man was recently sentenced to federal prison on narcotics charges.

    Kendrick O’Brian Crawford, 28, was sentenced to 135 months in federal prison on each of six counts of which he was convicted.

    According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Crawford previously pleaded guilty to six counts of distributing cocaine.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Resisting arrest on Mulligan Way in Bolivia on July 3.

    •Simple physical assault and simple non-physical assault on Woods Court in Bolivia on July 5.

    •Vandalism on Middleton Villa in Calabash on July 6.

    •Vandalism on Middleton Villa in Calabash on July 6.

    •Vandalism on South Middleton in Calabash on July 6.

    •Fraud on Ocean Highway West in Supply on July 6.

  • Sunset Beach police make arrest, investigate incidents

    SUNSET BEACH—Michael Ray Gray, 62, of 2240 Waterloo Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, has been charged with two counts of forgery and uttering and two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

    The arrest was the result of a traffic stop, according to Sunset Beach Detective Joe Smith. Warrants were on file from the Burlington Police Department, he said.

    Sunset Beach police investigated the following incidents.

    •Larceny of a surfboard, reported June 27 on 33rd Street.

    •Jonathan Siler, 27, of 583 North Mulberry Road, Shallotte, was arrested during a traffic stop for outstanding warrants.

    •Larceny on Shingletree Road in Calabash on June 29; suspect stole construction materials.

    •Fraud and larceny of a child support card on Long Beach Road in Southport on June 29. •Vandalism and breaking and entering on Bulkhead Bend in Carolina Shores on June 29.

    •Larceny and fraud on Ocean Highway East in Calabash on June 30.

    •Fraud and harassment on Dosher Cutoff in Southport on June 30.
