  • OIB Crime Report

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests during the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Concord Street; suspects entered a storage shed and stole beer and towels.

    •Stuart Reed Burkett, 17, of 4298 Headley’s Mill Road, Pataska, Ohio, was charged with underage drinking.

  • Holden Beach Crime Report

    The Holden Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Larceny from buildings on Sailfish Drive; suspect removed a green wooden bench, a hammock and a drop cord.

    •Larceny of a man’s bicycle from High Point Street; suspect stole a bike from a residence.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Larceny on Jennis Avenue in Calabash on June 15; suspect stole victim’s bicycle.

    •Vandalism on North Middleton Drive in Calabash on June 15; suspect broke victim’s back passenger window glass on vehicle.

    •Motor vehicle theft on Jabbertown Road in Southport on June 15; suspect stole victim’s Kia.

    •Welfare check on Copas Road in Shallotte on June 15.

  • One of six men charged with felonies in Hankins’ case re-arrested after plea

    BOLIVIA—Less than three hours after pleading guilty to felony inciting a riot, Jamar Akeem Bethea was arrested and placed under a $1 million bond for violating the terms of his probation.

    Assistant district attorney Lee Bollinger said Bethea—one of six men charged with felony inciting a riot in connection with the April 2011 shooting death of South Brunswick High School football star Marcus Hankins—pleaded guilty June 14 to felony inciting a riot.

  • Three arrested for Supply meth lab operation

    Three people have been arrested in a meth lab bust.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh, agents with the Brunswick County Vice Narcotics Unit received information a methamphetamine lab was being operated out of a home at 2560 Elkin St. SW in Supply.

    Narcotic agents served a search warrant at the Elkin Street home at 9 p.m. Friday, June 15, where agents found a small working meth lab, including additional precursor chemicals, inside the home.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From June 4-10, special operations set up checkpoints on Town Creek Road, George II Highway, Shallotte rest area, N.C. 133, U.S. 74-76 on-ramp, Shallotte Point Loop and Piggott roads, N.C. 179, McLamb Rod, Green Hill Road and No. 5 School Road.

  • Woman arrested for faking her abduction

    A Leland woman has been arrested for fabricating her own abduction.

    According to Leland Police, Ashley Hutchins, 27, of 127 Basin St., Leland, has been charged with extortion and cyber stalking. She was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Center, where she was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.

    Police say the abduction was reported Saturday, June 2, saying Hutchins was being held for an undisclosed ransom.

    Hutchins was found the following day in Winnabow.

  • Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Fraud on Nottaway Drive in Calabash on June 8.

    •Burglary and vandalism on Carol Street in Southport on June 8.

    •Larceny on Chadwick Landing Road in Supply on June 9.

    •Motor vehicle theft on North Mulberry Road in Shallotte on June 9.

    •Death investigation on Parkview Place in Shallotte on June 9; a 48-year-old man was found dead. No foul play is suspected and a toxicology report is pending.

  • Click it or Ticket yields 10,288 violations

    A recent Click It or Ticket campaign resulted in 10,288 statewide citations for seat belt and child safety seat violations.

    The campaign, which ran from May 21 through June 3, was conducted in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties.

    In Brunswick County, officers wrote 1,485 citations during the campaign.

    Officers conducted 76 checkpoints, which resulted in 84 total driving while impaired (DWI) arrests. Of the 84 DWI arrests, 12 drivers were younger than 21 years old, while 72 drivers were older than 21.

  • Sunset Harbor man arrested for assault

    A Sunset Harbor man has been arrested for assaulting a man with a flashlight.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh, Christopher Lane Wood Hodge of 636 Harbor Road, Bolivia, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

    Routh said around 12:26 a.m. Saturday, June 2, sheriff’s deputies and K-9 units were dispatched to Ironwood Road in Sunset Harbor.
