  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Team roundup

    The special operations team at the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office includes the K-9 enforcement team and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team.

    The ACE Team is a support unit whose primary functions are traffic enforcement and assisting in the apprehension of drug traffickers in the county.

    From June 25-July 1, special operations deputies issued 86 total traffic citations and charges.

    Deputies set up checkpoints on N.C. 133, Pireway Road, Old Shallotte Road, Mount Misery Road and Longwood Road.

  • Leland man pleads guilty to indecent liberties with a minor

    BOLIVIA—A Leland man has pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a minor.

    According to the district attorney’s office, Corey Allen Sullivan, 24, pleaded guilty last week in Brunswick County Superior Court to three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

    The incidents, to which Sullivan pleaded guilty, occurred with a 14-year-old Leland girl in July 2009. The Brunswick Beacon does not identify victims of sexual assault. The victim told investigators Sullivan would provide her with alcohol, then engage in sexual acts with her.

  • Four of five women wanted in financial scheme taken into custody

    BOLIVIA—Four of the five women wanted in connection with a scheme that drained a veterans’ life savings have been taken into custody.

    Lisa McClain, the alleged ringleader of the scheme, however, remains at large.

    At press time Monday, McClain was the only suspect who had not been arrested.

  • Man injured in weekend shooting in Sunset Harbor

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a weekend shooting in the Sunset Harbor community near Bolivia.

    According to Sgt. Del Routh, sheriff’s office spokesman, deputies responded to a home on Cox Landing Road in Sunset Harbor around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, July 1. When deputies arrived on scene, the victim, who had been shot, had already been taken to Brunswick Novant Medical Center for treatment, Routh said.

  • Sunset Beach police investigate incidents

    The Sunset Beach Police Department took the following reports and made the following arrests.

    Two incidents of breaking-and/or-entering a motor vehicle and larceny were reported June 19 and June 20 on Clubhouse Road.

    Another breaking-and/or entering a motor vehicle and larceny was reported June 25 on Live Oak Drive.

    All of the prior listed incidents involved unlocked cars. Police say the perpetrator seems to be someone who is not willing to actually break in by force but is willing to seize the opportunity to enter unsecured vehicles.

  • Brunswick County Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents:

    •Death investigation on Goodman Road in Leland on June 23; an 89-year-old man died of natural causes.

    •Burglary, vandalism and larceny on Galloway Road in Varnamtown on June 23.

    •Larceny on Frying Pan Road in Southport on June 23; suspect stole victim’s custom North Carolina license plate.

    •Larceny on Caison Loop Road in Winnabow on June 23.

    •Vandalism on Ellis Road in Supply on June 23.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    The Shallotte Police Department office is closed to the public while the building undergoes renovations. Anyone wishing to speak to an officer or obtain a copy of a police report must go to the Southend Task Force building at 130 Cheers St. The number to reach the police department is 754-6008.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

     

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests during the last two weeks. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Stacey Leann Tedder, of 606 East First Ave, Chadbourn, was arrested for driving while license revoked.

    •Logan Ann McBride, 28, of 606 East First Ave, Chadbourn, was arrested for driving while license revoked and outstanding warrants.

  • Police recover stolen car but not thief

    SHALLOTTE—Police have recovered a stolen vehicle but still need help finding the thief.

    At about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, June 14, a 1997 charcoal gray extended cab Ford Ranger truck with North Carolina tags was stolen from the Scotchman at 359 Whiteville Road.

    According to Shallotte police, the victim dropped his key when exiting his truck. The suspect reportedly picked the keys up and was last seen driving through the Scotchman parking lot.

  • Sunset Beach Crime Report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Injury to personal property on Sea Bourne Way.

    •Breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny from a motor vehicle on Millslough Drive.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on East Main Street.

    •Norman Robert Cregan, 57, of 397 East Second St., Supply, was charged with DWI, no operator’s license and open container.
