  • Sheriff's Office crime report

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the following incidents last week:

    •Fraud on Nottaway Drive in Calabash on June 8.

    •Burglary and vandalism on Carol Street in Southport on June 8.

    •Larceny on Chadwick Landing Road in Supply on June 9.

    •Motor vehicle theft on North Mulberry Road in Shallotte on June 9.

    •Death investigation on Parkview Place in Shallotte on June 9; a 48-year-old man was found dead. No foul play is suspected and a toxicology report is pending.

  • Click it or Ticket yields 10,288 violations

    A recent Click It or Ticket campaign resulted in 10,288 statewide citations for seat belt and child safety seat violations.

    The campaign, which ran from May 21 through June 3, was conducted in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties.

    In Brunswick County, officers wrote 1,485 citations during the campaign.

    Officers conducted 76 checkpoints, which resulted in 84 total driving while impaired (DWI) arrests. Of the 84 DWI arrests, 12 drivers were younger than 21 years old, while 72 drivers were older than 21.

  • Sunset Harbor man arrested for assault

    A Sunset Harbor man has been arrested for assaulting a man with a flashlight.

    According to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh, Christopher Lane Wood Hodge of 636 Harbor Road, Bolivia, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

    Routh said around 12:26 a.m. Saturday, June 2, sheriff’s deputies and K-9 units were dispatched to Ironwood Road in Sunset Harbor.

  • Sunset Beach police report

    The Sunset Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents:

    •A report of breaking-or-entering motor vehicle and larceny from a motor vehicle was taken June 5 at an address on Sailfish Street. A semi-automatic handgun was reported stolen.

    •Injury to personal property was reported June 5 on Canal Drive. A plug was removed from a 23-foot fishing boat, causing it to partially sink.

    •A report of financial-transaction card fraud and obtaining property by false pretenses was taken on June 11.

  • Shallotte Crime Report

    The Shallotte Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last week. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.
    The Shallotte police department office is closed to the public while the building undergoes renovations. Anyone wishing to speak to an officer or obtain a copy of a police report must go to the Southend Task Force building at 130 Cheers Street. The number to reach the police department is 754-6008.

  • Ocean Isle Beach Crime Report

    Arrest made in Ocean Isle Beach

    The Ocean Isle Beach Police Department investigated the following incidents and made the following arrests last month. All information is taken directly from police incident and arrest reports.

    •Thomas Henry McCollum, 65, of 29 Country Club Drive, Shallotte, was charged with possession of marijuana less than half ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying concealed weapons.

    •Larceny; victim’s credit card was used online to make purchases totaling more than $1,800.

  • Sunset Beach police arrest two for break-in, theft

    SUNSET BEACH—Two homeless people have been charged with a breaking-and-entering and larceny from a Sunset Beach address.

    Jimmy Dean Garner, 49, and his wife, Carole Lynn Garner, 46, were each charged May 27 with breaking-and-entering and larceny by Sunset Beach Detective Joe Smith in connection with the May 11 incident on Sailfish Street.

    Town police also investigated the following incidents reported over the past month.

    •A report of identity theft in the area of Magnolia Drive was made on May 29.

  • Two arrested for golf course break-ins

    Detectives have arrested two men for break-ins to the Olde Fort Golf Course near Winnabow.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Del Routh said detectives arrested Michael David Nucci, 23, and Nathan Atlas Hale, 16, on May 31, for recent break-ins reported at the golf course.

    Routh said detectives have been investigating the break-ins since early May.

    When detectives arrived at Nucci’s residence, they found both suspects, along with property stolen from the golf course.

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following incidents:

    •Larceny of medication on Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia on June 1.

    •Larceny on Whiteville Road in Ash on June 1.

    •Breaking and entering and larceny on Old Ferry Road in Supply on June 1.

    •Larceny and vandalism on Old Georgetown Road in Calabash on June 1.

    •Felony assault on Ironwood Road in Bolivia on June 2.

    •Fire investigation on Mount Misery Road in Leland on June 2.
