  • West Brunswick holds off West Bladen rally, wins 11-9

     The West Brunswick High School baseball team built an 11-2 lead but had to hold off a West Bladen rally in an 11-9 victory Friday night.

    Trey Brown was the winning pitcher in the conference game, giving up four earned runs and five hits in six innings. He hit two batters, walked one and struck out three.

    West is now 2-3 in the conference, 4-6 overall. The victory was the 304th in Mike Alderson’s coaching career.

    West Bladen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-out home run.

  • Sheriff’s office searching for man wanted for robbery, assault

    Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a suspect wanted for robbery and assault.

    Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. April Stanley said detectives are searching for Michael Anthony Williams, 21. Williams has been charged with two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault on a handicapped person.

    The following cases were adjudicated over five days of District Criminal Court on March 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22 in Bolivia.

  • Lady Trojans beat West Bladen 10-3

     The West Brunswick High School softball team remained unbeaten in the conference after a 10-3 victory March 31 over West Bladen.

    Dez Avallone hit a two-run home run and Paige Ward, the only senior on the team, also hit a home run for the Trojans (4-0, 7-1). Eight of West’s starting nine had at least one hit.

    “We had (12) hits,” coach Joe Noble said, “and some of them were blistered.”

  • Scores, highlights of area golf leagues

    The Beachcombers played a 1-2-3 tournament Friday at Brierwood. The winners with a score of 110 (-26) were Dennis McCann, Tom Culverwell, Bob Brownley and Stu Cleveland. Second with a score of 114 (-22) were Bob Byrne, Dennis Davidson, Fred Ortiz and Jim Ritter. Lowest gross were Stu Cleveland and Gary Gutheil with 87s. Lowest nets: Bob Byrne 66, Stu Cleveland 67, Bill Cameron 68 and Jim Ritter 69. Stu Cleveland was voted golfer of the week.
