  • Dosher Hospital introduces plastic surgery physician

    Dosher Memorial Hospital has announced Eric L. Cole, MD, has joined its team of healthcare providers.

    After attending Stanford University and Duke University Medical School, Cole trained in plastic surgery and otolaryngology at UNC and Duke. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, as well as the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

    Plastic surgery is comprised of surgical and non-surgical techniques to treat both the function and appearance of the body or face.

  • Silver Coast Winery wins awards

    Silver Coast Winery won three medals in the 32nd International Eastern Wine Competition, which featured entries from 38 states, three Canadian provinces and 13 countries, according to a news release.

    Its new wines, Calabash White and Calabash Red, just released to the public at the end of February, each received a bronze medal.

    “The Calabash wines are exciting because they are great wines at a great price, something you can put on your table every night and not break the bank,” said Maryann Charlap-Azzato, winery owner and manager.

  • ATMC Cable adds new networks

    ATMC Cable has added USA HD to its lineup of high definition channels. The addition brings ATMC’s total number of HD channels to 32.

    The company has also added a new network to the digital channel lineup.

    USA HD is on channel 937 and is a simulcast of USA Network. USA HD features original series, feature movies, sports events including PGA Tour golf tournaments, entertainment events, off-net television shows and blockbuster theatrical films.

    USA HD is available at no extra cost with Expanded Basic and an HD box or DVR.

  • Awards given at State of the Young Child breakfast

    Community members from across the county attended Smart Start of Brunswick County’s annual State of the Young Child Breakfast, where several people received awards for their work with children, Smart Start announced in a news release.

    The event was Friday, June 6, at Sea Trail Convention Center.

  • Banks-Bland

    Announcement is made of the forthcoming marriage of Letonia Nicole Banks of Riegelwood and Herman Douglas Bland of Shallotte. The bride-elect is the daughter of Stanley and Helen Banks of Riegelwood. The prospective groom is the son of Henry and Mary Clifton and Herman Williams Jr. of Shallotte. A July 5 wedding is planned at United Faith Ministries in Elizabethtown.

  • Green-Coupland

    Mary Robinson Green and John Buchanan Coupland Jr., both of Raleigh, were married June 14 at Shallotte Presbyterian Church with minister Dwight O. Christenbury officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sellars Green of Ocean Isle Beach.

    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Buchanan Coupland Sr. of Durham.

    The bride was given in marriage and escorted by her father.

    The bride wore a strapless sheath gown of ivory silk charmeuse overlaid with antique ivory alacon lace.

  • The signs are all around us; we just have to open our eyes

    My son-in-law made his request months ago. He wanted to surprise my daughter, his wife, with a trip to Hawaii for their 20th wedding anniversary.

    Knowing I was planning to attend my 15th college reunion and would be in the Northeast in early June, he decided to organize their venture to coincide with mine.

    This gave all of us an opportunity to stretch our faith—theirs in relinquishing “control” of their children and mine in renewing my parenting skills, albeit from an older and wiser place!

    Thus began the long-range preparations.
