  • Fired up about firing Congress

    To the editor:
The unemployment level is too high, gas and food prices are spiraling and our grandchildren’s grandchildren will still be paying off the national debt.
What is Congress doing about it? Absolutely nothing.

  • No basis for insurance hike

    To the editor:
I would hope the citizens of Brunswick County would join me in communicating to the North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance that the 30 percent rate increase ($400 annually for most of us) in the property insurance premiums requested by the N.C. Insurance Underwriting Association is totally without merit.
Our property values have decreased by 25 percent with no comparable premium reduction whatsoever.

  • Another great ride for Bike MS

    To the editor:
We recently hosted our annual Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach event Sept. 22-23, with the finish site at The Village at Sunset Beach.
We are so fortunate to work with everyone in the Sunset Beach community. From the town council and staff to local businesses and other volunteers, they all had a huge role in making this event so successful again this year.
With continued partnership of the Sunset Beach community, we are moving toward a world free of MS.

  • Bad dream or reality?

    To the editor:
I had a dream the other night. I dreamt I was president and my accomplishments of the last four years have left the country with high unemployment, a shrinking middle class, 47 million people on food stamps, $16 trillion in debt and loss of stature throughout the world. I just took a beat-down from my opponent in a debate, and it looks like I may lose my election. What to do?

  • It’s time for a change

    To the editor:
As a fourth-grader in North Carolina, I learned that our state motto is “To be rather than to seem.”
Now I am a 29-year-old wife and mother who prays that everyone planning to vote in this great state realizes that President Barack Obama is not the inspiring advocate for change he seemed to be four years ago.
North Carolina has been devastated by economic policies formulated or supported by Obama, and he has failed to make the changes he promised the American people.

  • Supports McIntyre

    To the editor:
After seeing so many Super-PAC funded commercials trying to portray Mike McIntyre as some sort of liberal, I have concluded that it’s necessary to let the actual facts tell the true story.

  • Thanks for support

    To the editor:
Coastline Volunteer Rescue Squad will begin its annual fund drive during October. Residents in the Supply, Holden Beach, Varnamtown, Bolivia and part of the Shallotte area should be receiving a letter of solicitation.
We certainly hope this year’s fund drive will be a success. We would like to thank everyone for their support.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a squad official at 842-2266 or via email at dmrobinson@atmc.net.

    Grover R. Hewett, vice president

  • Warrior Ride thanks

    To the editor:
Sincere thanks for all the support from Shallotte to Calabash. What a show of patriotism and thanks to our heroes.
The Calabash VFW Post led by Commander Ray Ketchum, [Shallotte] Mayor Sara McCullough, schools, civic organizations, communities and businesses all made for a wonderful heroes’ welcome.
We will be back to thank you personally in the upcoming weeks.
All the warriors were overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and recognition for their sacrifices. Please know they all went home Saturday afternoon feeling appreciated.

  • Take another look

    To the editor:
You can think the rich should pay their “fair share;” you can love Obamacare; you can feel we need to “spread the wealth” and believe “you didn’t build that;” and you can even believe the “private sector is doing just fine,” but you cannot possibly believe the murders of our ambassador in Libya and three others and an attack on our embassy on Sept. 11 were just a spontaneous reaction to a ridiculous video making fun of the Prophet Mohammed.

  • Candidate rouses concern

    To the editor:
Every election, I take the time to examine the candidates individually instead of just voting straight ticket.
