  • Believes in term limits

  • Program makes recycling a countywide option

Brunswick County has a growing problem—its trash.
While we’re blessed to be a county where people want to live, with a growing population comes a number of quality-of-life headaches, like what do we do with all the stuff residents and visitors throw away?
As of July 1, the county has a new alternative—a fee-based, countywide curbside recycling program.
Some of the county’s municipalities offer curbside recycling, but those who live in unincorporated areas—or in towns without recycling—were left with few options.

  • BFA director says goodbye

    To the editor:
Well, it’s time for my journey as the Brunswick Family Assistance executive director to end, as Gene and I explore a different path.
We won’t get caught up in tedious whys and mushy good-byes. Let’s make this about helping people who don’t know where to turn for help.

  • Thanks to emergency services

    To the editor:
To the citizens of Brunswick County, the Brunswick EMS, Shallotte Volunteer Fire Department, Brunswick Sheriff’s Office, Autumn Care personnel, Brunswick Novant Medical Center and others I am not aware of:

  • Justice for Jaronn: Questioning how and why

As a reporter I am used to asking questions. Sometimes the answers are obvious and other times they are hidden.

This Sunday evening before the Fourth of July, I have one question that has plagued me since March 1 when I first found out a 3-year-old child had been dropped off at the Brunswick Novant Medical Center and died shortly after.

How could anyone kill a 3-year-old child?

    I just don’t understand.

  • America has a blind spot

    To the editor:
When we go to the eye doctor, we discover that we all have a blind spot in our peripheral vision. America has a blind spot when it comes to the unborn.
America, as a whole, is horrified when a child is abused or killed by a sex offender or serial killer. We make special laws to protect children and pedophiles are considered the lowest form of all humanity. We even prosecute those who are responsible for killing a child when causing a baby’s death while assaulting a woman who is carrying it.

  • Will SCOTUS healthcare ruling be the end of Obama(care) era?

I’m beginning to understand why our fearless leader President Barack Obama doesn’t think too highly of the U.S. Supreme Court.

I used to think Obama simply dislikes anyone with the audacity to disagree with him, but now, oh wait, no, that is all it is.

He really detests when people oppose him or his ideas, especially, it seems, if they wear a robe.

Maybe he always wanted to be in their elite legal club. Who knows?

  • Protect yourself and your family from financial crimes

A local veteran recently had more than $260,000 stolen from him.
The alleged thieves, who have outstanding warrants for their arrests, were women who worked in the nursing industry.
As a matter of fact, the 72-year-old man had willingly let one of the women—Lisa McClain, a caregiver who worked for Allied Home Health—into his home.
