    The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team lost 87-86 in overtime to host USC Salkehatchie in the second round Friday of the National Junior Community College Association Division I, Region 10, championship tournament.
    The tourney was a qualifier for the NJCAA national tourney March 18-23 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in
Hutchinson, Kan.

    WHITEVILLE—The Brunswick Community College baseball team beat Southeastern Community College 1-0 and 3-2 in a doubleheader Saturday.
    Zachary Andrews struck out nine batters in the nine-inning 1-0 victory. He gave up two hits and he hit two batters.
    BCC scored an unearned run in the eighth on a two-out, two-strike single to center by Johnathan Corbett. The hit scored Brett Fraley, who had reached on a one-out error, went to second on a sacrifice by Ryan Hill and advanced to third on a single by Hunter Allen.

  • BCC beats PHCC, improves to 7-3

    The Dolphins split a doubleheader Saturday against Patrick Henry Community College, losing the first game 2-0 but winning the second game 7-0.
    In the 7-0 victory, Keaton Oaks was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits in the seven-inning game. He walked three and struck out four.
    The Dolphins finished with 11 hits. Ryan Maksim was 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs. Michael Deese hit two triples and had one RBI. Ryan Brendle was 2-for-4 with a double. Johnathan Corbett had two RBIs. Ryan Hill was 2-for-3.

  • BCC teams set for Region 10 tourneys

    The Brunswick Community College basketball teams play this week in Region 10 championship tournaments.
    The Lady Dolphins (5-9, and seeded No. 4) open the tourney Friday at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Va., against Cape Fear (5-9 and seeded No. 5). BCC has beaten Cape Fear twice this season.
    These are the other first-round games: Catawba Valley vs. Guilford Tech; Louisburg vs. Wake Tech; Lenoir vs. Patrick Henry.

  • Lady Dolphins nearly upset unbeaten CVCC

    BOLIVIA—Freshman guard Anika Jones sank two free throws with 11 seconds left to clinch a 52-48 victory Saturday for unbeaten Catawba Valley Community College against Brunswick Community College.
    For BCC (5-8, 9-16), sophomore Syerra Troutman scored 16 points, sophomore Emily Jackson 12 and freshman Monica Smalls eight. Sophomore Jennette Taylor scored six points, sophomore Shanita Hampton four and sophomore Tyesha McLean two.

  • BCC men beat USC Salkehatchie

     BOLIVIA—The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team beat USC Salkehatchie 75-65 Saturday afternoon at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    For BCC (5-4, 17-10), Quinton Morrow scored 22 points, Cam Jones 15, Tre Francisco 10 and Darrion Eastmon eight. Other scorers: Allen Hauser five, Tevin Jones and Kenny Jackson four each, MaKenzi Kurvits-Statum three and Khari Faison and Montez Loman two each.

  • BCC men defeat St. Ignatios

     BOLIVIA—The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team beat St. Ignatios College Prep of Drayton, S.C., 98-83 Feb. 14 in a non-region game.

    For BCC, Khari Faison scored 21 points, Quinton Morrow 16, Montez Loman 15 and Cam Jones 14. Allen Hauser and Darrion Eastmon each scored eight points. Demarkus Forbes and Anthony Williams each scored four points, MaKenzie Kurvits-Statum and Tre Francisco three each and D.J. Rowell two.

    A 3-pointer cut the BCC lead to 78-75 but the Dolphins outscored St. Ignatios 9-2 in taking an 87-77 lead.

  • BCC wins twice on Opening Day

    BOLIVIA—The Brunswick Community College baseball team entered the 2013 season with 30 or more wins in each of the last three seasons. The way things are shaping up, BCC may be on its way to another year of such success.
    The Dolphins opened this season by sweeping the East Carolina club team in a doubleheader on Saturday at Founders Field.
    Under the direction of head coach Robbie Allen, BCC rolled to a 10-0 victory in the first game of the twinbill before securing a 6-1 win in the second contest.

  • Top teams in polls sweep BCC

     BOLIVIA—The Brunswick Community College men’s basketball team lost 77-59 Sunday afternoon to Spartanburg Methodist at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center gym.

    The Pioneers entered the game 23-0 and No. 3 in the NJCAA Division I poll. On Jan. 19, BCC lost 71-66 at Spartanburg.

    For BCC (3-3 in the region, 14-9 overall), Khari Faison and Quinton Morrow each scored 16 points. Tre’ Francisco scored nine points. No one else scored more than five points.
