    Great flounder fishing continues to be the big story in Brunswick County inshore fishing, as anglers are taking nice-sized fish on both live bait and artificial lures. With flounder you can choose either natural offerings or today’s scented soft baits and fish them with confidence as flounder will eagerly hit either one.

  • Chad McCumbee third in ARCA race

    Chad McCumbee finished third in the ARCA racing series’ ModSpace 150 Sunday in Millville, N.J.

  • Eight West Brunswick athletes...

     Eight West Brunswick High School athletes were among the students honored May 25 during the senior awards program.

    Quan Bates was named Male Athlete of the Year and Kayla Padgett was named the Female Athlete of the Year.

    Bates is a three-sport all-conference athlete.

    In track, he was a member of the four-by-200 relay at the state meet. He also was a state qualifier in the long jump. He has run the 100 meters in 10.96 seconds.

    In basketball, he averaged 10.1 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.

  • McCumbee third in ARCA road race...

     Chad McCumbee finished third in the ARCA racing series’ ModSpace 150 Sunday in Millville, N.J.

    McCumbee, driving the No. 1 ModSpace Ford, started fifth on the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway at New Jersey Motorsports Park and moved into second on the first lap. He ran in the top five all day and finished third after making a pass on the final lap of the event sponsored by his car sponsor.

    This was McCumbee’s third straight top-10 finish and his first top-five in his second stint with Andy Belmont Racing, which began last April.

  • Batts wins silver in triple jump...

    GREENSBORO—North Brunswick High School senior Jamelle Batts finished second in the long jump at the NCHSAA Class 2A state track and field meet Saturday at North Carolina A&T State University.

    Batts jumped 44 feet, 9 inches. The winning mark at 45-10.

    “I was winning the whole time,” Batts said, “and the guy who got first place had never jumped 44 feet in his life—and he popped a 45-10.”

  • North Brunswick reaches fourth...

    LELAND—Seniors Chris Hamilton and Tylan Kelly each hit a home run and pitchers David Zacek and Tim Walsh struck out 12 batters as North Brunswick beat East Duplin 2-1 in the third round of the NCHSAA Class 2A state baseball playoffs Friday night.

    The Scorpions (15-9) play a sectional game Tuesday at South Lenoir (22-4). East Duplin finishes 19-7. The sectional winner advances to the best-of-three regional series, which begins May 26. The regional winner qualifies for the state championship series.

Kids Golf Tournament Saturday at Tiger’s Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge, presented by The South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club and numerous, generous sponsors.  The Rotary Club uses the proceeds for many, many good works in the county.
