    Whelen night at Myrtle Beach Speedway saw Adam Fulford Jr. win again in the bicycle race.

  • Brunswick athletes to compete in...

     Eleven Brunswick County athletes will be competing in baseball, softball and soccer in the annual Powerade State Games of North Carolina.

    In boys’ soccer, West Brunswick’s Scottie Melvin and Alex Harrell, along with South Brunswick’s Dominic Cunliffe and Willie McRae, are on the East roster. South Brunswick coach Joseph Salzler is an East assistant coach.

    The two-day competition consists of North, South, West and East teams.

  • Darkness suspends West rally in...

     LELAND–Darkness led to a suspension of the Junior American Legion baseball game Monday between West Brunswick and Leland Post 68.

    West trailed 11-8 in the sixth inning but had the bases loaded with two outs when the game was suspended. The stadium lights were inoperable. The game will be resumed June 28 at West.

  • Flounder Tourney championship...

     The winner of the 28th annual Flounder Tournament, sponsored by the Sudan Daredevils of the South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club, was decided by 0.01 pound.

    Ricky Cottle, of Shallotte caught the heaviest fish in the tournament, based out of the Shallotte Volunteer Fire Department on June 10-11. His catch was 7.16 pounds and was worth $1,500.

    In second, at 7.15 pounds, was the catch by Larry Lefler. It was worth $1,000.

  • Renegades have golf trip

    The Renegades Ladies’ away trip was June 1-3 at Santee, S.C., playing at Santee Cooper Golf Course and Santee National Golf Course. The format was the total of each player’s low gross from day one plus the total of each player’s low net from day two. There were three flights.
