    Results from Feb. 26. Michael St. George posted to highest scratch game total with 226, while Leonard Kennedy bowled a 201. Noah Hewett also posted a 201 score, while Donald Bollinger (198) and Ricky Joyner (189) also had strong showings. Other top finishers were Justin Shepard (186), Kenny Holden (184), Chris Benton (183, twice), James Broyhill (180), Ed Davis (180) and Terrence Galloway (179).

     Calabash VFW Post 7288 Dart League members competed in league play to round out February.

    The team of Leslie Paulson, Dennis Major and Tom Kelleher earned first-place honors for the week of Feb. 20, while the squad of Eileen Lenz, Bob MacDougall and Mike Walton captured a second-place standing. Shirley Kelleher, Rich Leylo and Don Paulson finished in third place.

     Catawba Valley Community College handed Brunswick Community College an 81-71 defeat in the final regular-season game of the 2017-18 campaign on Saturday, March 3, in Leland.

    Katisha Hyman scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists for the Lady Dolphins, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 25-point Catawba Valley effort in the fourth quarter.

    Jayda Malone scored 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, in the losing effort.

  • BCC baseball falls to 8-8 after...

     Brunswick Community College’s baseball squad claimed a victory in the first game of a four-game set against the University of South Carolina at Sumter last weekend before dropping the final three games of the series to fall to 8-8 overall.

    Sumter earned a 9-4 victory in the series finale Sunday, March 4, to cap its third consecutive victory over the Dolphins.

    Pitcher Sam Hunt led Sumter to a win in the finale, tossing three-plus innings and allowing four runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts to earn the victory on the mound.

  • Trojan softball teams to begin...

     West Brunswick’s varsity softball team fell just one win shy of a berth in last year’s 3A state championship series a year ago.

    The quest to return to the 3A East Regional finals was scheduled to begin this week for the Trojans.

    West Brunswick head softball coach Joe Noble, who is entering his 22nd year at the helm of the softball program, and his squad were scheduled to start the season with a non-conference road game Wednesday, March 7, at North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) against the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m.

  • Trojan men’s lacrosse team earns...

     West Brunswick’s men’s lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a pair of victories last weekend.

    The squad defeated county rival North Brunswick 14-0 on Friday, March 2, before earning an 8-4 decision over North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) on Saturday, March 3. Both games were played at M.H. Rourk Stadium in Shallotte.

    The women’s lacrosse team opened the campaign in dominant fashion with a 21-0 shutout over North Myrtle Beach on Saturday, March 3, in Shallotte.
